“How shall I live?
I want to feel both the beauty
and the pain
of the world we are living in….”
I consider Terry Tempest Williams’ meditation on the question of how to live the essential dilemma of our time - of any time, perhaps, although environmental, social and political degradation seems to be at a collective tipping point.
How do we live in a world at war with itself? My resilience is based on faith: faith in nature, art and the human spirit. This is my holy trinity. I write to remember, to forget, to advocate or witness. Writing is resistance, is resilience, is a celebration of the world. In writing (the arts broadly), there is the potential for change/renewal.
“Stress is energy
a chemistry dangerous and fertile
marking shifts
in territory or affiliation
a becoming.
Sometimes the struggle
is a necessary violence.”
